Arizona Air Ambulance Services
Arizona is home to 7.1 million people with the Phoenix metropolitan area claiming just over 4.5 million in population. Another million Arizonians call the Tucson metro area home. So where do the rest of Arizona’s 1.6 million people live? Arizona is the sixth largest state in area (113,990 square miles), and much of that area is dedicated to small towns, villages and rural areas.
Add a staggering 43 million visitors who come to Arizona annually. Many come for tourism and visit Arizona’s scenic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Petrified Forest to Sedona. It’s easy to see that accidents and medical needs may arise in areas where no advanced medical care is available. When you require air ambulance services you can trust, turn to AirCARE1.

Who Is AirCARE1?
AirCARE1 was founded by Denise Waye, a registered nurse who worked specifically as a flight nurse. She loved her job but was frustrated by her lack of formal training and felt that there was a better way to offer air ambulance services to patients in need. With that, AirCARE1 was founded over 10 years ago. AirCARE1 operates its own fleet of Learjets transporting patients safely and quickly to the medical help they need and/or back home after a medical emergency.
What Sets AirCARE1 Apart?
At AirCARE1, we deliver care based on a patient’s unique needs. We’ve designed our air ambulance services to meet a wide range of medical requirements while creating the smoothest possible transition to a health care center. Our benefits include:
- Commitment to safety: AirCARE1 has an outstanding safety record and applies a purpose-built Safety Management System to provide safe, high-quality care. This system is designed to align with a range of international standards and is recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). With ongoing training for our crew, we uphold these safety standards for every flight.
- Air Ambulance accreditation: AirCARE1 has the CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) certification, renewed every 3 years. This accreditation represents our dedication to delivering trustworthy air ambulance services.
- Learjet aircraft: Our highly maintained Learjet air ambulance aircraft forms the foundation of our air ambulance services. These models are the leading choice in the industry for airborne intensive care units, and we’ve outfitted our aircraft with a range of specialized medical equipment to support all types of care.
- Experienced pilots: We hold our pilots to the highest standards to keep patients in good hands during transport. All of our pilots have trained at Tucson’s world-renowned flight training school and have over 3,000 hours of flight time.
- Dynamic medical team: Every patient’s medical transportation needs are unique, so we staff each flight with a dynamic team of professionals to deliver the right form of care. With paramedics, critical care nurses and respiratory therapists, we can provide a broad range of medical support during long-distance flights. We can also staff our flights with physicians as required.
- Comfortable transport: We understand that flying can cause patients stress or anxiety. Our crew works to create as peaceful an experience as possible with a range of therapies, such as hand massage, aromatherapy and noise-canceling headphones.
Serving All Types of Patients
From the tiniest and youngest patients to bariatric patients to geriatric patients, AirCARE1 transports everyone with specialized equipment to help make our bedside-to-bedside air ambulance experience as safe and stress-free as possible. We serve:
Neonatal/Infant – Babies don’t always wait until full-term to come into this world. In some cases, they may be born at the hospital where the hospital is not equipped with a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). This is where AirCARE1 can help. Our highly-trained neonatal team has the specialized training to care for your tiny baby while they are transported from the hospital to a larger facility with a dedicated NICU. Your baby is transferred from their hospital of birth in a fully equipped level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, stays in that unit during transfer to the aircraft, and remains in our own NICU incubator until they are safely at the new NICU and are transferred to their NICU’s incubator. We also provide air ambulance service for critically ill or badly injured infants who need complex surgeries and treatments only available in large medical complexes.
Pediatric/Children – Our trained pediatric transport medical team understands that children aren’t just “small adults.” The psychological and physiological differences create challenges when a pediatric patient needs air ambulance transport. For example, younger children can lose body heat more quickly than adults. Pediatric patients also have higher metabolic rates and might suffer from low blood sugar during transport. Our team is alert to these differences and others. Many small children experience extreme anxiety when around strangers. You can rely on our team at AirCARE1 to help diffuse these kinds of emotionally charged situations.
Bariatric/Obese – Estimates indicated that over 3 million people in the U.S. are morbidly obese (i.e., they weigh at least 100 pounds above their ideal weight). Suppose you or a loved one is in an auto accident or becomes seriously ill, and the nearest hospital is not equipped to effectively treat a bariatric patient. AirCARE1 has a specially equipped loading ramp system that prevents tipping and wobbling while loading onto the aircraft. Our Learjet cargo doors are extra wide and can accommodate the girth of patients who weight up to 450 pounds. Our stretchers are specially designed so that the patient does not have to be transferred again until they reach their final destination hospital. Our bariatric-trained medical teams understand the special needs of a bariatric patient. We provide extra padding on the stretcher to reduce the risk of bed sores as well as providing 15 minutes of 100 percent oxygen before the flight to help prevent a fat emboli.
Geriatric/Elderly – Just over 14 percent of people in the U.S. are over 65. That’s over 44 million people. But what happens when they get sick or become injured when they are traveling and need to get appropriate medical care or need to get back home? AirCARE1’s medical crews are well equipped to care for geriatric patients with all types of injuries and illnesses. Many geriatric patients suffer from heart problems or COPD and require supplemental oxygen while flying. Our team pays special attention to geriatric patients’ fragile skin and also make sure that they receive adequate hydration. Our teams specialized training also includes working with patients who suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Commercial Medical Escort Options
In some cases, you or a loved one may require medical transportation without a full-service flight. AirCARE1 offers a commercial airline travel companion for those who can sit upright and fasten their seatbelts. These patients must also be free from contagious diseases. AirCARE1 can assign this companion based on alignment with these requirements.
